I WATCHED the BBC six o’clock news last night with added interest. As Alison Rowat pointed out (“Decent start but The Nine needs to live a little more dangerously”,The Herald, February 26) Amol Rajan, BBC media editor, reported from Glasgow on the launch of the new channel. I was on the flight from London with him on Monday. We briefly touched on the new channel.

He was flying up to do a piece on the six o’clock news, as we later saw, all 60 seconds of it, then flew back the same night. I suggested that perhaps this is what’s wrong with the London centric media, denying Scottish reporters the chance to do the piece for the main news. His view was more that it showed London cared enough to send someone to cover it. For 60 seconds? Really? He had a producer as well.
