THERE is growing concern regarding the judgment and impartiality of BBC political staff following the ludicrous decision to first invite Mark Meechan to participate in a late-night panel show and then to disinvite him following public misgivings ("BBC Scotland drops Nazi dog salute man after outcry", The Herald, March 4).

Mr Meechan, who was found guilty of grossly offensive hate crimes last year, is a member of Ukip, which now numbers Tommy Robinson as an adviser to its leadership.

By lurching so far to the political right wing that Nigel Farage decided to leave the party, Ukip has effectively become a neo-Nazi group, with all the political extremes that this entails.

The repeated invitations on to Question Time of Billy Mitchell, a failed Ukip candidate and now, Mr Meechan's invite, must be regarded either as the BBC harbouring a political agenda or sheer incompetence in its ranks. I want to believe the latter but bitter experience tells me that the former is the more likely reason.
