WHILST no longer having the right shape for today’s fashions and never having had the desire to wear skirts that come much above the ankles, and never, ever wearing trousers (I hate the things), your article about Melody Uyanga Ramsay, and her designs for the fashion show at the Glasgow School of Art ("Opposites attract in the world of student design", The Herald, March 13) had me casting an eye over my own wardrobe.

Soon it will be spring, we are led to believe, and I wondered if I should invest in something to mark the event. Looking at the dear old things hanging from their hangers I see that most of them are well over 20 years old now, with quite a number being nearer to 30 and my favourite skirt being over 40. I thought about it for a while and all desire for a visit to the shops receded.

At the end of one rail, in a protective cover, is the darling of my "collection" – the lovely traditional-pattern Welsh jacket given to me by my husband for our first wedding anniversary in 1961. It has been worn, and "loved to bits, over all those years and will come out again and help me to welcome Spring. Whenever it arrives.

In the meantime best wishes to Ms Ramsay for her internship at Ralph Lauren in New York.

I WAS shocked to see the pictures of the Glasgow School of Art fashion show and agree with Michael Watson (Letters, March 14) him that if that is the best they can do, why bother spending huge sums of money to rebuild this art school?
