THE invasive daffodil is destroying the environment, ruining bio-diversity and the sudden blaze of yellow spoils the magic show of the slow emergence of spring.

Daffodils are smothering woodlands, green banks, grass verges, shore fields, copses, thickets, church grounds, drives, estate lawns, hill slopes, parks, roundabouts, house gardens, daffodils by hedgerows, dykes, dry-stoned walls and waterside vegetation, river, canal steam, burn and loch side.

Daffodils are seemingly everywhere at this time of the year and, horror upon horror, the bulbs then remain hidden in the harmed and rendered-useless earth with wildlife in and above it gone for ever.

I firmly believe the daffodil is way up there with the despised and depressing Japanese knotweed and rhododendron.
