GRAEME McGarry’s article in today’s Sport section (“Celtic players and chiefs unite: This stops now” (The Herald, April 5) is a start. Perhaps the players and coaches from all teams should put their houses in order first and stop the on and (closely) off-field shenanigans and be role models for supporters.

How can the police and security staff hope to control supporters’ behaviour when players and coaches are going head to head and egging their support on? Players and coaches should be held to account for their actions.

FOLLOWING somewhat negative headings in Herald Sport this week I commend the positive and succinct comment of chief sportswriter Stewart Fisher (“Old Firm debacle just depressing”, The Herald, April 4). In contrast to “When did goading become a crime ? “ (Neil Cameron, April 3) which seemed to suggest goading (provoking or inciting) and “sticking it to the fans” was quite acceptable. Mr Fisher’s comment that “respect – win, draw or lose – is fundamental to sport” should be welcomed and acted upon.
