THERE has been much publicity of late of the consequences of contracting Lyme’s disease; including in your columns (“New ‘tick tracking’ app launched in fight against Lyme disease”, The Herald, August 23). Nowhere, however, have I seen mentioned the possibility of vaccination against this dangerous and debilitating disease.

Prior to a walking holiday in Slovenia some years ago now I had such injection on advice from a stranger serendipitously met who, had herself been bitten by a tick in that very country. At that time the vaccination was not available on the NHS, was expensive (£80 a shot) and was time limited in its effectiveness (a year?).

Is it not now time to make such (or improved) vaccination available on the NHS; at least for those in ‘at risk’ locations and occupations?
