A stushie between two footballers’ wives has been billed the greatest thing to happen since the invention of the internet, after accusations were hurled online on Wednesday that had Twitter users agog.
Coleen Rooney claimed that a series of stories about the mother-of-four and her footballer husband, Wayne, were leaked from the Instagram account of her fellow WAG Rebekah Vardy and appeared in The Sun. After allegedly snaring her former friend on social media some hailed Rooney as #wagathachristie.
What is Rooney accusing Vardy of?
After a slew of stories found their way onto the pages of The Sun, Rooney put her sleuthing cap on and set about setting up her loose-lipped online informer.
Knowing that the stories could only have come from someone viewing her private Instagram account, she says she blocked everyone except Vardy and posted fake news via her account and, viola, those counterfeit tales became headline news.
Rooney took to Twitter to post a carefully worded accusation that branded Vardy’s account the
culprit – carefully not pointing her perfectly manicured (no doubt) finger at any one person begging the question, why did she suspect her former friend in the first place?

What fake stories were leaked?
A story about Rooney signing up to Strictly Come Dancing, another about her flying to Mexico to attend a gender selection clinic for her next baby and a flooded basement.
Who is Rebekah Vardy?
Married to Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy, who rose to fame after leading his team to an unexpected Premier League victory in 2016, she is well known on the reality TV circuit, making regular appearances on Loose Women and rising to something like fame after a stint in the jungle on I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here.
Now heavily-pregnant, the 36-year-old is not known for being the shy, retiring type but has vociferously defended herself online and hired forensic IT experts in a bid to clear her name.
Some people have said that, although not in need of cash, Vardy might be amenable to an intimate relationship with the tabloid to keep her name in the limelight.

What is a WAG?
The acronym stands for Wives and Girlfriends and was coined during those heady years before Victoria Beckham eschewed her pop star roots and was queen of the footballers’ wives.
WAGS ruled the world during the 2006 World Cup in Germany when Queen V was BFFs with Coleen Rooney and then-Cheryl Tweedy, soon to be Cole.
How have people reacted?
The memes, oh, the memes. As the tension rose on Wednesday, Vardy posted a tweet directly to Rooney where she drove home her innocence and suggested other people had access to her Instagram account. She promptly flew home from a family trip to Dubai and reportedly engaged a crack-team of IT experts to clear her name.
Wikipedia’s Agatha Christie entry was changed with the theory that Coleen Rooney is in fact the reincarnation of the detective novelist.
