THE demolition of the fire-damaged block in Sauchiehall Street must be impacting badly on the surrounding stores and with an inevitable demolition of the old BhS a probable nail in the coffin to that section of Glasgow. Watt Brothers has indicated a likely closure, Dunnes and BhS have gone and despite cancelling plans for a new store adjacent or near to John Lewis, Marks & Spencer, with its current store closures, could decide to include the Sauchiehall Street store in that as well. Internet and out of town stores are not only affecting small town businesses but, as we can now see with the Fraser's store issue, our city centres too ("Fraser's store in Glasgow is safe ... but for how long", The Herald, June 11).
