Western Isles MP Angus MacNeil is set to face trial accused of causing serious injury to a teen biker by driving dangerously.

The SNP MP, who represents Na h-Eileanan an Iar, has been charged with causing serious injury following an incident involving a motorcyclist in Barra on the A888 near Castlebay Community School in October last year.

A not guilty plea was recorded by letter at Lochmaddy Sheriff Court on Tuesday.

A pre-trial hearing is scheduled for September, with the trial due to take place in October. The 50-year-old MP is expected to appear in person in court for the interim hearing in September ahead of his trial the following month.
