POLICE have carried out security checks at the home and constituency office of Humza Yousaf following threats made against him.

The Health Secretary said officers had issued dozens of recommendations on how he can boost his security.

He spoke out following the killing of Sir David Amess last week.

Speaking to Bauer Media, Mr Yousaf said his thoughts are with the Conservative MP's family, friends and colleagues.

He said the incident still rocks him "to his very core" because only two weeks earlier he had spoken to Holyrood and Scottish Government bosses about threats he had received.

Mr Yousaf said: "Police Scotland were round my house and in my constituency office doing a security survey because of threats that I had received as well just a month ago.

"So it's a very live issue, it's a very topical issue.

"But I know it's an issue that Police Scotland in particular take very, very seriously."

He added: "I've been left with, I think, 30 or 40 recommendations of how to improve security both in terms of my constituency office and also my own home as well.

"I'll take forward every single one of those recommendations."

Mr Yousaf urged fellow politicians to take up the offer of a virtual briefing with Police Scotland following Sir David's death.
