A RANGE of Scottish projects have been granted funding as part of the Chancellors budget today.

Among them are Inverness Castle, Pollok Stables and a new marketplace for Aberdeen city centre.

However no new cash has been announced for the North Sea Just Transition, which was a key ask of the SNP ahead of the budget.

The party said the UK Government should match the £500m the Scottish Government has invested in a so-called just transition.

The Chancellor did pledge £27m in March for the North Sea transition, which is referenced again in this latest budget.

Despite this, a slew of other projects have been awarded a share of £172m as part of the UK Government's Levelling Up fund.

The schemes which have been successful are:

  • Redevelopment of Inverness Castle.
  • A new marketplace in Aberdeen City Centre.
  • A direct route between Glasgow and the Three Towns in North Ayrshire.
  • Transforming Pollok Stables and Sawmill in Glasgow into a net-zero heritage living centre.
  • Redeveloping Granton Waterfront Northwest of Edinburgh.
  • Upgrading Westfield Roundabout in Falkirk.
  • Remodelling the Artizan Shopping Centre in West Dunbartonshire.
  • Connecting the Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District to Paisley, Renfrew and Inchinnan.

The Chancellor also announced successful bidders for a share of £1.07m, from the government's Community Ownership Fund.

They are:

  • £300,000 for the Old Town Hall, Whithorn.
  • £250,000 for the Rannoch Hub, Kinloch Rannoch
  • £219,096 for the Old Forge pub, Inverie.
  • £175,000 for the New Galloway Town Hall
  • £124,843 for the Callander Visitor Information Centre

Bespoke funding has been set aside for severl other one-off projects, including £3m for the Burrell Collection in Glasgow, as revealed today by The Herald, and around £1m for the Hebrides X-Prix in 2022.

Around 3,600 premesis will be connected to full fibre broadband across Aberdeenshire, Angus, Highland, Moray, Perth and Kinross as £8m is invested into project gigabit.

A new small business fund through the British Investment Bank is also hoped to support small businesses.
