PAUL McGinn, the Queen's Park defender, has followed in the footsteps of his brothers Stephen and John by joining St Mirren, thus ending a chase for his signature that also involved Aberdeen, Motherwell and Dundee United, writes Craig Stewart.

McGinn seemed to be Pittodrie-bound until he suffered a knee injury that required minor surgery. That opened the door for Danny Lennon to invite him to train with the Paisley side last month.

Gardner Speirs, the Queen's Park head coach, said: "It is no surprise that Paul has joined an SPL side as he was fantastic for us during his four years here.

"We had hoped that we may get another season out of him but he has taken the opportunity of full-time football now and we wish him well for the future."
