Dundee United and Partick Thistle last night agreed a financial settlement which brings an end to the dispute which has festered since the resignation of Jackie McNamara as manager at Firhill back in January.

He departed to take the manager's job at United five months ago alongside assistant Simon Donnelly and sparked a war of words as the two clubs were unable to agree compensation.

However, yesterday, the clubs announced they had settled on a fee and have brought the matter to a conclusion. "All parties were keen to resolve the situation amicably, without the need for arbitration, and all are pleased that the matter is now closed," said a United spokesperson.
