Craig Gordon made his first start for Celtic yesterday as the Parkhead club drew 1-1 against Dynamo Dresden in their friendly in Germany.

The former Hearts and Sunderland keeper, new manager Ronny Deila's only signing so far, was one of several changes to the side that won 1-0 against KR Reykjavik in their Champions League qualifier on Tuesday.

Captain for the day Kris Commons opened the scoring in the seventh minute with a drive from inside the box after being set up by Teemu Pukki.

However, the attacking midfielder was substituted just before the break, which may cause some concern ahead of the return game against KR Reykjavik at Murrayfield this Tuesday night.

Deila changed almost his whole side at the interval, but the home team levelled through Sylvano Comvalius in the 69th minute.

Celtic, meanwhile, have been promised an "immaculate" surface when they become the first to play on Murrayfield's new pitch on Tuesday in the return against Reykavik.

With Parkhead being used for the Commonwealth Games, the Premiership titleholders opted to take their European qualifiers to the capital to the home of Scottish rugby.

Murrayfield drew stinging criticism just a few months ago when, infested with root-eating roundworms, it made playing rugby extremely difficult during the Six Nations campaign.

The Scottish Rugby Union responded by laying a new £1.25 million hybrid surface, similar to that used by the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool, as well as at Twickenham and the Aviva Stadium.

Celtic will become the first to try out the Desso Grassmaster pitch but have been assured of a home from home they will be more than happy with after Scotland and Edinburgh Rugby backs Dougie Fife and Greig Tonks inspected the surface on Friday.

Tonks said: "It is immaculate. It's the same surface as the Liberty Stadium, that's shared by rugby and football clubs, Ospreys and Swansea FC, so it's proven to be well suited to fast flowing, elite-level football and rugby."
