CAPTAIN Frank McKeown has left Stranraer to pen a one-year deal with Championship newcomers Morton.

The 28-year-old was hailed as a hero away from football when his day job as a fireman saw him involved in the rescue operation at the Clutha Bar tragedy in Glasgow in November 2013.

And the central defender has also been an inspirational figure at Stranraer for the last four years following his arrival from Arthurlie, steering the Blues into the promotion play-offs last month.

However, the former Raith Rovers player has now opted to make the step up a league to join League One champions Morton.

He said on Twitter: "Tough to leave Stranraer after so many good years but delighted to sign for Morton."
