Jack Ross has been confirmed as the new manager of St Mirren.

The 40-year-old was a frontrunner from the outset to replace Alex Rae, who was axed from the post last month after less than a year in Paisley.

His appointment will come as a welcome addition by most fans of the Championship club. Not only did Ross play in black and white for two seasons from 2008 to 2010, but he has shown his coaching credentials magnificently at Alloa.

Ross took over last season as the relegation-certainties slipped into League One. Despite that, his board backed him with a new deal in April and Alloa currently sit third in the League One table with five wins from eight games.

The Recreation Park board gave St Mirren, who are bottom of the Championship, permission to talk to their man yesterday and was unveiled via the club's official Twitter account as their new manager on Tuesday evening.
