Rangers have had a £250,000 bid for Port Vale keeper Jak Alnwick accepted, thus triggering his release clause in the player’s contract.

The 23 year-old is expected in Glasgow shortly to conclude a deal to bring him to Ibrox on what is thought to be a three-year deal.

Alnwick, who started his career at Newcastle United, is currently joint-captain at Port Vale. He is seen as a replacement for Matt Gilks, who was told he could leave the club with Wigan Athletic his likely destination.

However, Alnwick – a former England U17 and U18 cap – could challenge current Rangers No.1 Wes Foderingham for the starting berth.
