LIFE is good right now for Ross Forbes. On Saturday, his 12th goal of the season was enough to earn Morton a tight 1-0 win over Queen of the South.

The solitary goal of the game not only secured the three points but allowed the Greenock men to leapfrog Dundee United in the Ladbrokes Championship table to sit just three points behind Falkirk in second spot with two games in hand.

"In terms of the game, I don't think we started too well," said Forbes whose partner is expecting twins. "A goal always gives you a lift and, personally, it was nice that it was me who got it.

"It couldn't have worked out more perfectly. Twins are on the way, they're due at the end of May. So you could say I planned it!"

Morton thought they had opened the scoring on the half-hour mark when Jamie Lindsay scored from a Michael Doyle header. However, referee Craig Charleston ruled that Doyle had climbed over his marker and chalked the goal off.

Morton went close again before half-time but Aidan Nesbitt volleyed over from inside the box. Lyndon Dykes then tried his luck after the break for Queens, but his weak attempt was gathered by Derek Gaston.

The breakthrough came on 54 minutes with a deflected strike from Forbes from the right-hand side before Queen of the South had a goal of their own ruled out for offside against Joe Thomson.

Queens boss Gary Naysmith was disappointed with the result, saying: "I don't know what Jim [Duffy] reckons, but I thought a draw would've been a fair result."
