Glasgow’s players started their review of a disappointing performance on the pitch in Llanelli – it will not get any easier in the video and analysis room this week.
Crucial weaknesses were exposed at Parc y Scarlets, most notably in the scrums and at half back. This result takes the Scarlets close to finishing second in Conference B of the Guinness PRO14.
Glasgow will want to bounce back with a win against Connacht in Scotstoun on Friday to confirm top place in Conference A, all of which means a return match between these two teams is likely in the play-offs – but this time in Scotland.
“It’s going to be a harsh review. We need to look at ourselves, what we did in the week and where we can be better,” said back rower Callum Gibbins, who took over the captaincy after a rib injury to Ryan Wilson.
“After that performance our next game needs to be a win. We have six days to turn it around and address the mistakes we made. It’s disappointing, but it’s not worrying and I don’t think there’s any panic.”
This was a first game back since the Six Nations for six Scotland internationals and the performance was disjointed in all sorts of ways. They have three games to confirm top place and regain top form, so home advantage will be crucial.
“Scotstoun is great, it’s awesome to play there,” said Gibbins. “Hopefully we can get a win on Friday and get to play there again in a home semi-final. That would be the dream result.
“We’re aware the play-offs are coming, but personally I want to win every game I play.”
Glasgow were hampered by a series of scrum penalties which allowed the Scarlets to keep the scoreboard ticking over while denying Glasgow attacking platforms.
They also struggled for fluency at 9 and 10, Finn Russell taken off at half-time while Ali Price gifted opposite number Gareth Davies an interception try which sealed the result.
A Henry Pyrgos try, created by Peter Horne, will form a tiny part of the review.

Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
