Jasmine Macintosh underlined her title credentials by claiming the scalp of the defending champion, Connie Jaffrey, on the opening day of matchplay ties in the Scottish Women’s Amateur Championship at Elie.

The Hazlehead youngster eased to a 4&3 win over her Troon rival to set up a quarter-final duel with the 2016 champion, Ailsa Summers.

Macintosh had been pushed all the way and more in her first round tie with Molly Richmond of Strathaven in the morning and eventually won at the 24th hole before requiring nine holes less to see off Jaffrey.

Chloe Goadby, the No 1 seed, sealed her last eight spot with a two hole win over Louise Duncan to set up an intriguing tussle with the 2014 champion, Gabrielle Macdonald.

Hannah McCook, the Irish and Welsh Open champion, edged through at the 19th hole of a tight affair with Milngavie’s Lorna McClymont.
