SCOTTISH men’s doubles internationalists Martin Campbell and Patrick MacHugh have announced their retirement from badminton.

The Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in April was their last international appearance and the pair have decided to now hang up their rackets having been mainstays of the national team for a number of years.

Campbell amassed 29 international caps since his Scotland debut in 2010 while MacHugh representing his country 18 times since 2014 and both cited Glasgow 2014 as the highlight of their careers.

“I felt it was the right time after reflecting following the Commonwealth Games,” said Cambell, while MacHugh added: “I had reached the goals that I wanted to reach and after eight years of full time training it is time to move on.”
