Craig Gordon: Didn’t have a lot to do for long spells which made his three saves, all prevented goals, impressive in that they showed the strength of his concentration. 7
Jack Hendry: Took a boot to the face and had a difficult night. He did a lot right but he switched off at a crucial moment which should have led to an Alashkert goal. He is still learning. Had a hand, or head, in the second goal. 6
Kristoffer Ajer: Was given a lot trouble but kept going and played some nice passes. He was asked to play in the middle and it was a test for him. 6

Jozo Simunovic: One mistake could have led to a goal, but it was his surge forward which helped set-up his side’s crucial opener. He does not look comfortable on the left and side of a three. 6
James Forrest: As he always does, he kept the ball and retained possession, which was his orders. Another really good show from the winger and he thoroughly deserved his goal. 8
Scott Brown: Superb. There was one moment in the first half when Alashkert had a three-on-one and it was the captain who read the situation and won his tackle. Is he getting better? 8
Olivier Ntcham: He can find things too easy at times, which lets him down. The Frenchman is a talent but he was too lackadaisical and his delivery from set-pieces were poor. 6
Callum McGregor: Nice little touches here and there. He took a few dunts and still kept going. His goal which came at the end of a clever run was so typical of this fine footballer. 7
Kieran Tierney: Looked fit and fast, he toed down the left, and his attitude as it always is was spot-on. Some good crosses as well. Seems suited to the left side of a midfield five. 7

Odsonne Edouard: Took his goal really well and linked up with Dembele. There is so much more to come from this 20-year-old who enjoyed some lovely moments. 7
Moussa Dembele: He came close to scoring twice, put in a real shift and looks leaner compared to last season. The Frenchman got himself involved in a lot. It was good to see. 7
Substitutes
Scott Sinclair: Played a part in the goal and, again, looked back to his old self. 6
Eboue Kouassi: Helped to see out the win. Made some nice passes in his cameo. 6
Lewis Morgan: His corner set up the second goal. A nice way to make his Celtic debut. 6
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
