JOSH WINDASS reckons the Rangers board should have knocked back the bid that saw him clinch a summer switch to Wigan.

The midfielder brought an end to his Ibrox career when he put pen-to-paper on a three-year deal with the Latics on deadline day.

But Windass has claimed the Light Blues were wrong to accept the £2million package on the table from Wigan.

He said: "It was a strange one. I was just about to get on the bus before the Maribor game and I got a text from someone I knew saying that Wigan have put a bid in and Rangers have accepted it. I don't think it should have been accepted.

"I just got my stuff off the bus and drove down to Wigan to see what they had to say.

"The manager told me I would be playing out wide and I prefer playing down the middle. For the sake of my own career I needed to play in a position where I can affect the game a lot more.

"I think playing out wide I wouldn't really have scored the goals for Rangers in that position. In the past I haven't really scored from playing out wide.

"I don't think the offer should have been accepted by the board but it is what it is and I'm happy to be where I am now.”

Windass was brought to Ibrox from Accrington Stanley and enjoyed his best season for Rangers last term as he netted 18 times in all competitions.

But he upset the Light Blue legions with a controversial ‘shushing’ celebration after finding the net against Partick Thistle.

He told talkSPORT: "I think it did for them (the fans). I never ever checked what fans were saying about me. I never took it into account in my decision to leave.

"I did that once after a game. You know what it's like up there, it's taken to a different level, that's all it was.”
