KENNY MILLER reckons there will be no winners in the international wrangle between Kyle Lafferty and the Northern Ireland FA.
The striker has effectively been banned from playing for Rangers against Hamilton this week after Belfast chiefs invokved a FIFA clause.
Boss Michael O’Neill was furious that Lafferty pulled out of his squad for the matches with Austria and Bosnia last week.
But former Ibrox forward Miller is bemused by the strange turn of events.
“For me, it is a strange situation for both player and the FA," he told BBC Scotland. "I don’t know who the winner is.
“They are ruling Kyle out of playing for his club at the weekend, which is clearly going to anger Kyle.
“In regards to any future selection, Michael said it is not as if his international career hangs in the balance. But how does that work with the relationship between Kyle, the manager and the FA?
“I just don’t see who the winner is. I can understand they might be a bit disappointed in the call off and maybe the timing of the call off and the reasons given.
“Again, this is a similar scenario to Leigh Griffiths. It has not been as high profile because it is not our country but it is very similar and Kyle did say there has been an injury and an ongoing problem.
“If Leigh had come out and said there was a problem, there is no much that we can say about it. Whether there is a genuine injury, who knows? It is a strange situation and I genuinely don’t know who the winner will be.”
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
