Craig Gordon
The Celtic goalkeeper must dread these nights. It matters little how well he played – and he couldn’t have done much more – and those in front are going to allow good players shots at his goal. Made two really good saves. Poor bloke. 6
Christian Gamboa
He actually began well enough, making a couple of good runs, but his mistake led to the second goal when he instead of tracking his man, he went in and missed a tackle. This is a World Cup player. Off at half-time. 3
Deryck Boyata
He will claim the first goal wasn’t entirely his fault, and the Belgian would have a case, but a supposed £10m international centre-half has can’t be so sloppy so often when the ball comes into his area. Then almost sold a second. This overshadows any good work. 4
Jozo Simunovic
He didn’t dominate his opponent, didn’t look scary for such a big guy, was forced into desperate tackles because he wasn’t where he was supposed to be. And then got an injury which could rule him out of Sunday. The story of his Celtic career. 4
Kieran Tierney
Captain for the night and not for the first time his effort was wasted because the team as a whole weren’t good enough. If this talent is to become the player we think we can, it might be time for him to go. Not for the first time his crosses weren't read. 6
Eboue Kouassi
Asked to sit deep but too many passes and players got past him. Had the ball taken off with ease on a night when there wasn’t the tiniest hint he’s Celtic player. 4
Olivier Ntcham
For a genuinely good player, this was poor. He didn’t spot a McGregor run at 0-0 – Ntcham was the only one not to – and his shooting was dreadful. Improved slightly when game was gone and should have scored. Remains a puzzle. 5
Callum McGregor
The one Celtic player who was comfortable on the ball early on and a great in the middle should have been picked out by Ntcham. Look done in at the end of a match in which he put in a shift for little reward. 5
Ryan Christie
Looked like a little boy out there. Couldn’t get on the ball at all, bar one or two neat touches. Gave his all in terms of effort, not unimportant, but Leipzig found him an easy target. In saying that, Christie never hid - if that's a boast. 5
Lewis Morgan
It was asking far too much from someone who was a Championship player in May. At least he went looking for the ball in the first-half but by the end could hardly get a touch. A harsh lesson learned for the kid. 5
Odsonne Edouard
Imagine the loneliest you have ever been. That was the Frenchman tonight. His mistake was to take an extra touch or try that one extra trick instead of having a shot. Stuck to his task but had two men to beat every time. Almost scored early on. 6
Substitutes
Mikael Lustig
On at the break but with the best will in the world was never going to change things. 5
Scott Sinclair
That he wasn’t considered for this game with so many missing tells you something. 4
Jack Hendry
Saw out the game when Simunovic went off 4
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
