JOE LEWIS: Very little to do in the opening period but had to look smart to turn away a Tavernier shot early in the second as Aberdeen came under the cosh. Commanded his area well and did everything required of him with ease. 7
SHAY LOGAN: Had his hands full trying to stem the threat of Kent for the most part, and while that blunted his ability to join the Aberdeen attack, he fought his corner well and blunted the influence of the in-form Rangers man brilliantly. 7
MICHAEL DEVLIN: Awarded the sponsors man-of-the-match which was a tad generous but stood up to his task well throughout and repelled whatever came his way. 7
SCOTT MCKENNA: Embarrassed by a fine bit of skill from Candeias as the winger’s nutmeg left him for dead, then booked early in the second half for a lunge on Goldson. Not his finest afternoon on a personal note, but a clean sheet nonetheless. 6
ANDREW CONSIDINE: Caught out of position and wrong side of Candeias a couple of times early on, but game was brought to an abrupt end as an accidental clash of heads with Coulibaly saw him stretchered off after half an hour. 4
GRAEME SHINNIE: Customary booking within two minutes for a lunge on Daniel Candeias, but the Aberdeen skipper managed to hang in there in the heat of the midfield battle and rally his side when it looked as though Rangers might be seizing control. 7
LEWIS FERGUSON: Took one for the team as he tripped the breaking Coulibaly to earn a booking late in the first half, but rose magnificently with 11 minutes left on the clock to head Aberdeen into the final 7
NIALL MCGINN: Should have done better than blaze a great early opening over the bar from inside the area, but showed he still has bags of quality as his glorious corner delivery was just begging to be headed home, and Ferguson duly obliged 7
SCOTT WRIGHT: Surprise inclusion in the line-up and looked a little lost as he struggled to have any sort of impact on the game. Replaced after the hour by Stevie May. 4
GARY MACKAY-STEVEN: Had the beating of Jon Flanagan all day long and brought a good save from McGregor with a cross that looped just under the bar. Always looked his side’s likeliest creative outlet, and enjoyed a fine afternoon 8
JAMES WILSON: Hardly got a kick in the first half, but at least got a shot away shortly after the break that went wide. Carelessness in possession almost cost his side dearly when he passed the ball straight to Candeias, but luckily for him, his teammates bailed him out 4
SUBSTITUTES:
MAX LOWE: On for the injured Considine after half an hour and acquitted himself well up against Candeias, even managing to influence the game in an attacking sense as he showed composure on the ball and a willingness to take men on. 7
STEVIE MAY: Given last half hour but while he was always a willing runner, he let himself down with his lack of quality on the ball. 4
DOMINIC BALL: On to shore things up late on and did his bit for the cause. 4
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
