NICKY LAW hopes he loses his record today as the last man to score a winner for Rangers in an Old Firm derby.

Law struck what proved to be the decisive penalty kick in the epic 2016 Scottish Cup semi-final when Tom Rogic’s subsequent shoot-out miss took Rangers through to the final.

But Celtic have completely dominated the fixture since, enjoying the longest unbeaten run in their history that has stretched to 12 games.

Law, now driving Exeter City’s midfield in the chase from promotion from League Two, said: “That day at Hampden in the semi-final is something I’m very proud of and I still remember it today.

“It was the first time Rangers had beaten Celtic since all of the troubles and it’s turned out to be the last victory they have enjoyed.

“It’s special to be the last Rangers player to score a winner against Celtic, but it’s a record I would love to see go on Saturday.

“The sooner it’s broken the better as far as far I’m concerned.”

Rangers are desperate for the win having fallen three points behind Celtic having played a game more.

Law said: “They have been close a couple of times. Last season they were ahead against 10 men but ended up losing 3-2.

“That was probably the biggest chance they have had.

“However, the calibre of player at Ibrox is the highest it has been since all of the financial problems so I think there should be confidence in the group.

“There are few clubs in the world that are better to play for when they are successful than Rangers so it would be great for this current squad to become the ones that end the unwanted run.

“They have a great manager now in Steven Gerrard and he has improved the club in so many ways.

“Winning on Saturday would be another pivotal step in the full recovery of the club because it would be such a massive confidence boost going into the second half of the season."
