Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths has targeted a return to the Parkhead side in the New Year after taking time out of football. The Hoops striker was granted leave of all football responsibilities as earlier this month when Brendan Rodgers revealed that he needed time to address ongoing personal issues. Griffiths was seen on Saturday evening as he watched Hearts beat Hibs at Easter Road, but there has been no time limit put on a return to playing duties from the club. Posted on social media, Griffiths tweeted three photographs of earlier celebrations this year as Celtic won the League Cup, league title and Scottish cup with the message: "Been off for a while but happy new year when it comes.

"In 2019 I'll be back doing what I do best, helping the team achieve as much as we can. And I can’t wait.

"Here’s three memorable days of the year and three trophies."
