HEARTS boss Craig Levein believes Scottish football can go "full steam ahead" with implementing Video Assistant Referees (VAR) after talks between managers, referees and the Scottish Football Association.

The potential introduction of VAR was the main outcome of a meeting in Perth on Thursday night, which was designed to clear the air between all parties.

Levein said: "The big thing to come out of it for me was that VAR is necessary, for a number of different reasons.

"I am hopeful it will take pressure off referees, and I am sure they would agree with that, and increase the right decisions that are made. For me, it's a no-brainer.

"I don't consider it to be a long-term situation, I would rather that was embraced as quickly as possible. Everybody agreed that it would make it so much easier for everybody.

"And if something as obvious as that can be used as a solution to the problem, then I think we should go full steam ahead to implement it."
