Celtic made sure a controversial Motherwell goal become notable only for game show clips after late strikes from Odsonne Edouard and Oliver Burke ensured they maintain their eight-point lead at the top of the table.

Having been in easy street through first-half goals from Scott Sinclair and Edouard, the visitors pulled a goal back in bizarre circumstances shortly after the restart.

Flouting the traditional but unwritten rule of giving the ball back to the opposition when it has come out to allow treatment, Motherwell had netted through Gboly Ariyibi following teenager James Scott's run.

Kristoffer Ajer had knocked the ball out for treatment to be given to the grounded Ryan Christie as Jack Hendry waited at the touchline to come on. Ajer had signalled to Christie as he played the ball out, clearly indicting his reason for shuffling the ball out of play.

Before the substitution could be made, however, Motherwell’s Liam Grimshaw took the throw-in quickly towards Scott while the home side expected the ball to be passed straight back to them.

Scott's effort was parried by Bain but the rebound was netted bt Ariyibi much to the chagrin of Celtic. Ajer and Dedryck Boyata were fuming - Ajer all the way through the remainder of the game - but subsequent goals from Edouard who sunk an exquisite free-kick off the underside of the bar and substitute Oliver Burke, made the controversial moment a talking point and nothing more.

Ewan Henderson made his first senior start too and impressed throughout with some clever touches. The youngster claimed the official man of the match award with the expectancy being that he will be seen a little more regularly as the season progresses.
