ALL Rangers can do is win their games and then keep a close eye on Celtic. After just 23 minutes at Ibrox, they could afford to have more than a glance towards Tynecastle.

Goals from Glen Kamara, James Tavernier and Alfredo Morelos put Steven Gerrard’s side in cruise control and clinched the points before Jermain Defoe completed the scoring late on. Successive 5-0 wins over Kilmarnock and Hamilton were impressive and this was another show of strength from the Gers on a night where anything less than a win would have been unforgiveable.

IT IS AS YOU WERE AT THE TOP OF THE PREMIERSHIP

The roars that followed the goals that secured the win for Rangers told their own story about how important those moments were. There was also a cheer for the one that Hearts scored as they drew level at home to Celtic.

The full-time whistle in Edinburgh wasn’t welcomed, though, as Celtic left it late to beat the Jambos and maintain their eight point advantage at the top of the table.

That was the only negative for Gerrard and the Ibrox crowd. This was another comfortable win as Rangers eased to a 4-0 victory and held up their side of the bargain.

In truth, that is all they can do and attentions will now turn to the Scottish Cup quarter-final with Aberdeen this weekend as Rangers look to build some momentum after an encouraging couple of outings.

GLEN KAMARA HAS ALREADY REPAID HIS FEE FOR RANGERS

It is fair to say that there was a fairly large section of the Ibrox crowd that weren’t completely sold on the move for Kamara when it was announced that he had agreed a pre-contract deal last month. Any sceptics will already have been won over, however, and he continues to shine following his £50,000 switch on deadline day.

Kamara certainly isn’t renowned for his goal scoring ability but it was the Finnish international that broke the deadlock here with his first goal. A free-kick from Tavernier was swung in from the right and Kamara did well to get across the Dees defence and beat keeper Seny Dieng with a lovely cushioned finish just inside the post.

He didn’t celebrate against his former club, but Ibrox certainly did. It was the start of another eye-catching showing from a player that has quickly risen to prominence.

MORELOS NOW STANDS ON THE BRINK OF A PLACE IN THE RANGERS RECORD BOOKS

Talk over the future of Alfredo Morelos will never go away, and the Colombian has added to it by once again expressing his desire to play in the Premier League. If he does go this summer, he will surely do so having broken through the 30-goal barrier this season.

The striker was on 27 when he took to the field here and that became 28 with a poacher’s finish at the back post as he made it 3-0. At that stage, he would have been thinking about following up his four against Kilmarnock with a hat-trick here.

Morelos had enough chances to add to his tally but he had to settle for one as he turned in another Man of the Match showing that will only attract suitors and multi-million pound bids.

He will break through that 30 barrier sooner rather than later, and join the likes of Derek Johnstone, Ally McCoist, Mark Hateley, Marco Negri and Kris Boyd on a unique list of former Ibrox strikers.

STEVEN DAVIS IS GETTING THERE SLOWLY BUT SURELY

Much was expected of Davis when he completed his loan switch from Southampton and clinched his return to Ibrox after a successful spell in the Premier League. He hasn’t quite hit the ground running, though.

It was always going to take the Northern Irishman time to get up to speed this season given his lack of match minutes in the first half of the season and Gerrard has been satisfied by what he has seen so far.

Davis could have a significant part to play in the final weeks of the campaign and the 45 minutes he got here, after replacing Arfield at the interval, will certainly do him no harm at all as he continues to get sharper with every outing.

THIS WAS A NIGHT WHERE NOTHING WENT RIGHT FOR DUNDEE

The message from Jim McIntyre to his players as they made their way out of the dressing room would have been to keep it tight in the opening stages, to try and frustrate Rangers and turn the Ibrox crowd. That ambition lasted less than four minutes and it became a case of damage limitation for a Dundee side that were outplayed and outclassed.

Their mood wouldn’t have been helped when they found out that Hamilton had won at Pittodrie and moved above them in the table. Not a good evening for the Dees.
