STEVEN GERRARD reckons a draw was a fair result at Pittodrie as Rangers and Aberdeen battled out a Scottish Cup quarter-final stalemate.

Joe Worrall’s first goal for the Light Blues shortly after the break kept Gerrard’s side in the competition after Sam Cosgrove had scored from the spot inside 11 minutes.

Rangers were 4-2 winners on their last trip to the north east but couldn’t cause the Dons as many problems this time around as Scott McKenna and Andrew Considine stifled the threat of striker Alfredo Morelos.

Now the teams will meet at Ibrox a week on Tuesday to determine who takes their place in the semi-finals at Hampden.

Gerrard said: “Aberdeen edged the first 45 minutes but we were better in the second half. There was only the penalty between us and I asked the players for more in the second half and to be braver on the ball. Reflecting on the game it was a fair result.

“Aberdeen showed our wide men a huge amount of respect. Dominic Ball and Max Lowe followed them right across the pitch and it is a tactic have used effectively before. In the second half I was much more pleased though.

“Both teams could have won the tie. McGregor made a save and McKenna made a game-saving block from Alfredo. Considine was lucky not to give away a penalty too for handball but all-in-all a draw was a fair result.

“It was another good battle between them. It wasn’t as eye-catching or box office as the last hour between them but I’m pleased they both came through the game.

“It’s nice to be talking about the game and chances rather than who is getting cited or suspended. I’m getting sick and tired with that.”
