RANGERS are keen to sign Motherwell winger Jake Hastie on a four-year deal, with the 19-year-old's contract at Fir Park set to expire in the summer.

Any agreement would mean Rangers would not have to pay a transfer fee but as Hastie is a youth team product of Motherwell, a development fee would have to be agreed between the two clubs.

Rangers would like to sign the young winger on a four-year contract, after reportedly being impressed with Hastie's progress since breaking into the Motherwell first team at the start of the year.

Motherwell manager Stephen Robinson is hopeful that Hastie will follow the example set by David Turnbull, Barry Maguire and James Scott by extending his contract in Lanarkshire, but Hastie could be tempted by a move to Ibrox.

Celtic and a host of English Championship clubs are reportedly monitoring the 19-year-old, but it appears Rangers have pipped their rivals to the signing.

Robinson insisted the latest reports surrounding Hastie were speculation as Motherwell refuse to give up hope of persuading the wide player to stay beyond the summer.

"No decision has been made at this moment in time," Robinson said. "Jake's got a decision to make. We do our very best with it. We can't pull money out of nowhere.

"What we do is try and convince him. We are very honest with people and Jake's very appreciative of that. It's up to him, it's tough decisions for young boys. But we are doing our very best with it.

"We are giving him game time and he's doing very well for the club at this moment in time, so that has to be our main focus, the game coming up (against Hamilton) and the next nine or 10 games of the season."
