Glasgow Clan’s slump in form was extended to one win in nine games as Cardiff Devils took victory in a 4-2 at the Braehead Arena.

The home side produced a strong start as they went toe to toe with the Devils, the current Elite League champions and a team with a record of 15 wins in their last 16 meetings with the Glasgow side.

Cardiff were helped by the post after eight minutes when a Matt Beca chance needed a save from the Devils goalie, Ben Bowns, with the puck landing nicely for Tyson Wilson, who drove his shot on goal, but the upright got in the way.

The visitors got the opening goal in the final couple of minutes of the opening period when Bryce Reddick’s shot found a way in past home goalie Joel Rumpel, with Mike Hedden getting the crucial final touch to give Devils the lead.

Cardiff took control of the game in the second period with two goals that made the difference to the overall outcome. A turnover allowed the Devils to break forward, with Stephen Dixon finishing to double the lead.

A couple of minutes later, Clan were sloppy in their passing, allowing Drew Schiestel to make his way into home ice and deliver a low diagonal shot past Rumpel to open up a three-goal lead.

Glasgow got on the scoresheet as Scott Pitt set up Beca, who managed to beat Bowns with a low shot and breathe some life back into the game after a relatively flat middle frame.

However, another strike from Dixon handed the Devils the momentum when Hedden’s effort was saved by Rumpel, but the Clan goalie couldn’t get back across his crease in time to prevent the Cardiff forward from caressing into the empty net to make it 4-1.

Pitt got the second goal for Pete Russell's side early in the third to give the home side a lifeline. But despite spells of pressure late on, they couldn’t find a way through as Cardiff stood firm in the final stages.
