With Scotland fans still licking their wounds from the abject performance against Kazakhstan we’ve taken a look at the Celtic players on international duty and how they have been fairing for their countries so far.
CELTIC
Emilio Izaguirre
Honduras host Ecuador on Wednesday in the only game in this international break for Izaguirre. The 96-time capped left-back will be hoping to edge closer to the century mark this year.
Dedryck Boyata
Boyata played the full 90 minutes on Thursday evening as Belgium defeated Russia 3-1. An Eden Hazard double helped Belgium en route to victory at the Heysel Stadium. Next up for Boyata and Belgium is an away trip to Cyprus on Sunday evening.
Kristoffer Ajer
The 20-year-old central defender Ajer has been a regular in the Norway set-up for the last couple of seasons. Norway travel to Spain to open their qualifying campaign before hosting Scandinavian rivals Sweden in what will be their first home match of the qualifying campaign.
Mikael Lustig
The right-back is expected to add to his appearances for Sweden as he looks set to win his 75th cap this weekend. Sweden host Romania, hoping to get their campaign off to a winning start, before meeting club-mate Ajer when the Swedes travel to Norway.
Timothy Weah
Celtic’s loan star has been included in the squad for the USA’s Under-23 friendly fixtures against Egypt and The Netherlands which are both being played in Spain. The fixtures are the first for new gaffer Jason Kreis, who will take his first matches in charge for the side looking to qualify for the 2020 summer Olympics.
Vakoun Issouf Bayo
The January transfer arrival had to pay for his own flights ahead of Under-23 international duty with the Ivory Coast. The 22 year-old striker, will take part in a double header for his country against Niger, with the first of those matches played on Friday night.
