Scunthorpe have sacked manager Stuart McCall after Saturday's defeat by Rochdale left the club in relegation trouble.

The 3-1 loss at Spotland saw the Iron slip to within two points of the drop zone. It was a sixth defeat in their last nine Sky Bet League One matches.

First-team coach Andy Dawson will be in caretaker charge for Scunthorpe's remaining seven games of the campaign.

A brief statement on the club's official website read: "Scunthorpe have parted company with first-team manager Stuart McCall. Andy Dawson will be caretaker manager for the rest of the season."

Former Rangers hero McCall became manager at Glanford Park in August after Nick Daws was sacked just four matches into the season.
