Partick Thistle defender James Penrice is thrilled with his appearance milestone but admits points are all that matter in tonight’s crucial Championship clash with Ayr United.

The full-back racked up his 50th outing for the Jags in Saturday’s all important 2-1 win over Alloa.

And victory this evening in their game in hand would propel Gary Caldwell’s side out of the relegation zone.

Penrice insists the Jags must take something out of the Somerset Park encounter.

He said: “We need to go and take points and if we go and get something then it would be absolutely brilliant.

“We can’t start like we did on Saturday, giving teams goals, we did it against Dunfermline too.

“We need to get the first goal on Tuesday.”

Penrice has made 42 first appearances this season and is delighted how his career has panned out following loan spells at East Fife and Livingston.

He added: “It’s bit surreal, with the way it was shaping up and going out on loan I didn’t think it would be like this but I’m glad I’ve played every minute this season and I want to keep going, next up is 100.

“It’s gone brilliantly and the loans have helped.”

Speaking to Jag Zone, he added: "I wasn’t ready when I went out for my first loan spell but that pushed me on towards my second and it helped me so much.

“I’ve come back and I would like to think I’ve played well.

“I want to keep playing, that’s the main objective, developing and winning games and getting that winning mentality.”
