AS the old saying goes, you can only beat what is in front of you.

Hearts and Motherwell haven’t been at their best when Rangers have played them in the last couple of weeks, but that takes nothing away from how well Steven Gerrard’s side have performed and how impressive the wins were.

Hearts have been off the boil recently but they have managed to get into the Scottish Cup final and they have plenty to play for in terms of starting spots at Hampden.

And going to Fir Park is always a difficult task for Rangers. Motherwell have had a good second half of the season, so that was a tricky one that Rangers did well to win as comfortably.

It is three wins and nine goals since the Old Firm game and all Rangers can try to do now is keep building on that as they look to finish the season strongly.

Steven Davis has played well, Scott Arfield has played well and Jermain Defoe got another goal on Saturday. So there are positives there for the manager.

The players can’t afford to take their foot off the gas in the last couple of games because some of them there are playing for a contract or a place in the squad next season.

If they want to stay here next year, this is their chance to show that they are good enough and that they can put a run together against the top teams in the Premiership.

Aberdeen will be the toughest game Rangers have played since the Celtic defeat and Steven’s side have struggled against them this term.

The record against Aberdeen, Hibernian and Kilmarnock hasn’t been good enough so Rangers have to rectify that. Then there is the small matter of Celtic once again.
