Flanagan appeared to aim an elbow at Brown during a corner, with referee Kevin Clancey to issuing a yellow card.

Many pundits said that Flanagan was lucky not to see red with BBC commentator Jim Duffy saying:  "Jon Flanagan put a forearm into Scott Brown's face. You just can't do that. Steven Gerrard has been talking about the discipline of his players. He's a very lucky boy to be sent off."

Sky's Neil McCann also agreed calling the Rangers defender "a lucky lucky boy"

Celtic were not given a penalty as the ball was not in play, minutes later Scott Arfield made it 2-0.
