THERE are a number of exciting Scottish Premiership prospects that are worth getting excited about. With that in mind, we'll be revealing our top 10 players under 21 currently plying their trade in the top flight. In order to be considered, players have to be based in Scotland permanently and have to have a significant number of minutes under their belts this season. The likes of Karamoko Dembele at Celtic or Rangers' Dapo Mebude might go on to become stars, but it's still a little too early to say for sure. Without any further ado, here's our number 7...
ALLAN Campbell has been a busy man this season. The 20-year-old central midfielder has played in no fewer than 40 games in all competitions this season and has played with a maturity that belies his age. Even last year, Campbell was an integral part of Stephen Robinson's midfield and played over 30 matches for the Fir Park club.
Campbell has performed admirably for Scot Gemmill's under-21 side and has been a standout player for Motherwell over the last two seasons. Combative off the ball and composed on it, Campbell is one of the first name's on Robinson's team-sheet and with good reason, too. Campbell, despite playing a deep role in the Motherwell midfield, is one of the Scottish Premiership's best chance creators. The 20-year-old has 11 key passes - a pass that leads directly to a shot - this season, more than the likes of Alfredo Morelos, Odsonne Edouard or Niall McGinn. A future Scotland international in the making.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
