DAVID MARSHALL Was as busy as he would have expected in the first half and a fingertip save from De Bruyne was the highlight. Could do little about Lukaku’s brace or strike from De Bruyne but kept the score down. 7

STEPHEN O’DONNELL No surprise he was given a difficult time of it by the Belgium attack but he can’t be faulted for effort. 6

CHARLIE MULGREW Caught out a few times in the first half as Belgium’s movement bamboozled Scotland. It didn’t get any easier after the break. 5

SCOTT MCKENNA Spent the first half under siege as Scotland camped in and was outmuscled by Lukaku when the striker gave Belgium the lead. Somehow helped spurn the best chance late on. 5

GREG TAYLOR Faced an ominous task on his international debut as he replaced captain Andy Robertson. A huge step up in class but the left-back kept at it on a draining night. 6

SCOTT MCTOMINAY Manchester United midfielder is no stranger to playing against players of this quality. Plenty of endeavour, but not enough influence. 6

KENNY MCLEAN Couldn’t offer any attacking impetus and didn’t see a lot of the ball. A low-key outing for the Norwich midfielder. 5

JOHNNY RUSSELL Started wide on the right and offered very little. Switched through the middle and offered even less. 4

STUART ARMSTRONG Came into the starting line-up and set up Burke for an early chance. Only lasted until the half hour mark, though, as he was forced off injured. 3

CALLUM MCGREGOR A quiet and frustrating night for the Celtic midfielder as he struggled to have any real influence on proceedings. 5

OLIVER BURKE Dragged a shot wide after nine minutes but rarely got another sight of target as he sat too deep and provided Scotland with no out ball. 5

RYAN FRASER (for Armstrong) Always bright when he got on the ball but Scotland couldn’t use him often enough until he came close late on. Not his night, but not his fault. 6

JAMES FORREST (for Russell) Game was gone by the time he got on. Difficult to make an impact but showed up well. 5
