Ex-team-mate Scott Linton is confident Greg Stewart will ‘do anything’ to bring success to Rangers next season after seeing him turn up for his first Cowdenbeath training session in Light Blues kit.
Stewart penned a two-year deal at Ibrox on Thursday to join his boyhood heroes after catching the eye in recent loan deals with Aberdeen and Kilmarnock.
It is a signing that has failed to impress some Rangers fans, but Linton is in no doubt the 29-year-old will win over any doubters.
The former Hibs trainee, who has joined Kelty Hearts this summer after stints with Dumbarton, Clyde and East Fife, played beside Stewart for three years at Cowdenbeath and has backed him to make the grade in Govan.

The Rangers fan who helped Toronto Raptors to the NBA ChampionshipHe said: “I can’t believe he has joined Rangers, to be honest. It only seems like a couple of years ago that we were playing together at Cowdenbeath and he was working for BP at Grangemouth.
“For him now to be a Rangers player is crazy, it’s quite surreal actually. It’s a dream move for him.
“It was weird when he first came in. Any trialist that came in usually got training kit from the club, but I just remember standing and wondering why this guy, who was 20, had a Rangers sweatshirt and Rangers shorts on!
“Nobody really said anything to him, because he was a trialist, but it was clear he was a Rangers fan, and that never usually happened.
“He said he had come from Syngenta Amateurs and we were all, like ‘he must be rubbish!’.
“But once we started getting into possession and ball work in pre-season you knew this guy was a serious player.
“He didn’t have the fitness levels to jump straight in at part-time but the ability was never in doubt.
“He was in and out the team to start with and never really the first name on the team-sheet until the year before he got his move to Dundee, but it all came together for him and he never looked back.
“He is confident, but not in a bad way. He has always believed in his ability and never felt out of place anywhere.
“As a big Rangers fan himself, I’m sure he’ll grab the chance with both hands.
“I know the Rangers fans have found it a wee bit of an underwhelming signing but they’re getting a player who will do anything for the club. He’ll give his all, that’s for sure, and he’s some player.
“I’m confident that he’ll do well.”
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
