ROSS MCCRORIE hopes he can play his part in developing the next generation of Ibrox stars - even though he is one of the youngest members of the Rangers first team squad.

The 21-year-old has impressed during his two campaigns with the Light Blues and has more than 50 appearances to his credit.

Boss Steven Gerrard has included several Gers kids in his travelling party for the pre-season training camp in Portugal.

And McCrorie is happy to offer any words of advice he can to help the up-and-coming talents rise through the Rangers ranks.

He said: "I am one of the few players to have come through over the last few years. Glenn (Middleton) has done it too but he hasn’t been here as long. I know a lot of the boys, I have grown up with them through the Academy and I speak to them all the time.

"It is nice if they are looking at me like that but I don’t think I will be the last one to come through. It feels like there is a bit of responsibility to help them when they come up to the first team training and I will help them as much as I can.

"I am happy to do that for anyone and I will help any young player if I can. If I can pass anything on, I will and hopefully it helps them and helps the team.

"I am still young myself and I am still learning. There are a really talented bunch of players at 18s and 20s and you can see that reflected in the cup wins and the league wins they got this season.

"I am sure soon, maybe even next season and over the next couple of seasons, you will see them coming through. There are a few there.

"It is about your mentality. When you think of playing in front of 50,000 people, some players might get scared. But you have to be in that mind zone of relishing that and you almost zone it out.

"The aim for the club is bring in one or two every season and I am sure the boys have been well prepared coming up through the Academy and they will be able to cope with it.

"You need that winning mentality and hopefully there are players there that can come through over the next couple of seasons."
