ST MIRREN striker Cody Cooke insists new manager Jim Goodwin has already made it clear what he expects from the players.

Goodwin linked up with the Buddies squad at their Murcia training base on Monday evening after being announced as Oran Kearney’s successor last Friday.

And according to Cooke, the former League Cup winning captain has wasted little time in getting his message across to the players ahead of next Sunday’s Betfred Cup clash at home to Dunfermline.

Cooke said: “It’s not only on the pitch, being here gives him that chance to speak to people in down time and whatever.

“I’m sure from meeting him on Monday that he will make his way round and speak to people individually and get to know everyone.

“He’s come in with his own ideas already and within two or three days we know what he’s demanding from every session.

“It’s a high tempo in every session and people want to impress and that’s only going to lead us in a good direction.

“The sessions have been really good, not only the type of sessions that have been put on but the work load the boys are doing as well.”

Cooke, who joined from Truro City last summer, notched three goals in only three Premiership starts in his maiden campaign north of the border but is hoping to become a key player under Goodwin.

He added: “Everyone wants to impress and make sure you have your name on the team sheet.

“It’s clean slate for everyone and there will be boys like myself who didn’t have loads of minutes last year who can go impress someone else, and that goes for the whole squad.”
