WES FODERINGHAM: Had one routine save to make in first half. That was about it. 6
MATT POLSTER: First start at Ibrox for the American and tried to support the attack, but delivery was sometimes wayward. Grew into game as it wore on and got assist for Defoe goal. 6
GEORGE EDMUNDSON: Comfortable enough night for the centre-back, who had very little to occupy himself with other than the odd foray forward for set-pieces. 6
CONNOR GOLDSON: Not a great deal to do in a defensive sense, but his clever flick from a corner set up Morelos for Rangers’ second of the night. Could have played with his slippers on. 6
ANDY HALLIDAY: Went close with a free-kick and always willing to get forward from left-back. Played the game like it was an Old Firm encounter. 6
GREG DOCHERTY: Played Aribo in for opener and was then fouled for the penalty that gave Rangers their third goal. Decent shift from the former Hamilton man. 7
GLEN KAMARA: Rare off-night for the midfielder who didn’t find his usual passing rhythm. Just a little off the pace of the high standards he has set so far in his Rangers career, but still did ok. 6
JAKE HASTIE: Was keen to impress on the left but had a bit of a mixed bag. Failed to lift his head when a simple pass would have had Morelos in and then blew a great chance when set up by the striker. Played his part in second goal though with clever corner and gave it his all. 6
JOE ARIBO: Got Rangers off to a flyer as he slotted home his first goal for the club inside a couple of minutes, and was one of the standout players on the pitch on the night. Strong in the tackle and composed on the ball, he looks a real talent. 8
GREG STEWART: Flitted in and out of the game a little, but when he did get involved, he usually injected a bit of quality. Unlucky not to score when his goalbound effort struck Morelos on the head and clever flick set up Defoe for the sixth. 7
ALFREDO MORELOS: A little quiet by his own standards in the first half, although burst into life right on half-time headed home Rangers’ second from close range. Got another from the spot after the break and then got his hat-trick as he slotted home from close range. He wasn’t quiet for long. 9
SUBSTITUTES
SCOTT ARFIELD: Got last half hour in place of Hastie and added a bit of drive to the Rangers attack. 6
JERMAIN DEFOE: Replaced hat-trick hero Morelos and no surprise to see him among the goals, slotting home with a cute finish from Polster’s cross before bagging another when clean through. 7
JOSH MCPAKE: Youngster got last 25 minutes and was lively, almost setting up a couple of chances for Defoe. 5
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
