The latest news and gossip from around Scottish football.
Ryan Kent latest
Rangers' hopes of landing Ryan Kent have hit another snag as Leeds United launched a bid to bring the winger to Elland Road.
The former Ibrox loanee has been the subject of speculation all summer with Gers supporters desperate to see the fan favourite back in Glasgow.
But their chances look even more slim as Marcelo Bielsa has reportedly opened talks with Liverpool and the player in a bid to land him before the transfer window shuts down south. (Daily Record)
Kieran Tierney could be back next week
Neil Lennon has confirmed Arsenal target Kieran Tierney is closer to a return than initially reported.
The left-back has been struggling with a hip injury and was reportedly going to be sidelined for up to eight weeks.
But Celtic boss Lennon has squashed those claims and told how the defender is over his double hernia operation - and could be back playing in a fortnight. (The Herald)
Celtic's new Bhoy makes his mark
Ex-Rangers winger Liam Burt scored the winning penalty for Celtic on his debut - just hours after signing.
The player, 20, was released by the Ibrox outfit before being picked up by their rivals.
And he sprung from the bench to net the winning penalty in a Challenge Cup shootout win over Queen's Park.
Dundee United boot out bid for kid
English Premier League side Crystal Palace have had an initial bid for Dundee United youngster Scott Banks rejected.
The midfielder, 17, is a highly-rated player and Palace have had him watched on numerous occasions.
But with the window ready to close tomorrow at 5pm, Banks could yet remain at Tannadice. (Daily Record)
Partick Thistle backing pulled
EuroMillions winner Colin Weir has withdrawn his financial backing at his beloved Thistle.
In a statement, Weird confirmed: "It is with huge regret that I confirm I am withdrawing my financial support for Partick Thistle with immediate effect.
"Current uncertainties about its potential new ownership, combined with no substantive plan for the Club’s future and the instability caused by recent Board changes, mean I feel unable to make any further investment in the Club at this time.
"I have heard nothing from the Board/majority shareholders group that gives me confidence to continue with my support.
“I have invested around £2.5m to date, including a sum that allowed the Club to become debt-free, with a further £6m set aside for the training ground and to support the running of the Thistle Weir Youth Academy.
"But I can’t provide the benefits of significant monies and a facility to an unknown entity or group, who may or may not have the best interests of the Club at heart.
"I wish the fans and all associated with the Club every good wish for a successful season."
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
