RANGERS are set to complete the signing of Leicester City midfielder Andy King on loan, Hearts are on the brink of finalising a move for a Manchester City winger and ex-Celtic striker Andy Walker has criticised Neil Lennon for leaving £10 million worth of new signings on the bench for the Champions League qualifier against Cluj.
King set for Ibrox move
Leicester City midfielder Andy King is on the brink of a move to Ibrox on a one-year loan deal. The Wales international was part of the Leicester side that won the Premier League in 2015/16 but has fallen out of favour at the King Power Stadium.
Bristol Rovers boss rules out loan move for Rangers’ McPake
Rangers youngster Josh McPake will not be joining Bristol Rovers on loan, after manager Graham Coughlan denied his interest in the 17-year-old. Coughlan told the Scottish Sun: “From Rangers? Rangers? Are you actually telling me I am going to be signing a Rangers player? If he was from Celtic I might think about it.”
Hearts await confirmation of Meshino loan
Japanese playmaker Ryotaro Meshino, who recently joined Manchester City from Japanese side Gamba Osaka, is on the verge of completing a loan move to Hearts. The Daily Record are reporting that the midfielder was at Tynecastle for last weekend’s 0-0 draw with Ross County and the deal will go through once a work permit is granted.
Walker: Lennon’s line-up made no sense
As the post-mortem on Celtic’s 4-3 defeat to CFR Cluj in the Champions League qualifiers continues, former Celtic striker Andy Walker has revealed he was baffled by Neil Lennon’s starting line-up on Tuesday night. “On the football side, Neil must shoulder the blame for dropping Boli Bolingoli, the player he signed for £3 million, and shoehorning Callum McGregor into the left-back position,” he said.
Gerrard taking nothing for granted
Rangers manager Steven Gerrard says he is taking nothing for granted ahead of tonight’s Europa League qualifier against Midtjylland, where Rangers are leading 4-2 from the first leg. Gerrard said: “We’ve seen their threat at set-pieces and scoring two goals in such a short period of time against us, even though it was a 4-2 game. We’ve got ourselves this advantage but it would be very naive of us to take our foot off the pedal thinking it’s done.”
Andersen: We can pull off shock of our own
Midtjylland manager Kenneth Andersen, meanwhile, is hoping to follow Cluj’s example by pulling off a shock win in Glasgow tonight. He said: “We hope to cause a similar shock, it will be a very big challenge but we will try to take it. You will see how we approach it.”
Whelan signs for Hearts
Former Stoke City midfielder Glenn Whelan has signed a one-year deal at Hearts after leaving Aston Villa at the end of last season, report the Scotsman. The 35-year-old midfielder has now joined up with the squad and could feature against Motherwell in tomorrow night’s League Cup fixture at Fir Park.
Celtic could play behind closed doors
Should AIK knock out Sheriff Tiraspol in their Europa League match tonight, they will then face Celtic in the play-off round. But the Swedish club are currently under investigation from UEFA, according to the Daily Record, and the home stand at the Friends Arena could be closed for Celtic’s trip to Stockholm.
