Reigning champions Liverpool had a re-run of their Murrayfield friendly against Napoli in this evening’s Champions League - and the outcome was almost exactly the same.

Jurgen Klopp’s men were left cursing a poor penalty decision given against Scotland captain Andy Robertson as their Italian opponents drew first blood late on from the spot in a 2-0 win.

Dries Mertens opened the scoring before new signing Fernando Llorente completed the scoring - just two months after their friendly clash ended in a 3-0 win for Carlo Ancelotti’s men.

Elsewhere Chelsea missed a late penalty in a 1-0 defeat to Valencia.

Ross Barkley insisted on taking the spot-kick off the bench when Jorginho and Willian both fancied it. But he blazed his effort over the bar.

German giants Borussia Dortmund held Barcelona to a goalless draw as Inter Milan also managed to salvage a 1-1 draw with Slavia Prague thanks to an injury time goal from Nicola Barella.
