Scotland fans have reacted to the news that Motherwell centre-half Declan Gallagher has been called up to the national squad.

The defender has started the season well for the Steel Men and his form has earned him a call-up.

Norwich City star Grant Hanley pulled out of the double header with Russia and San Marino through injury.

Kilmarnock defender Stuart Findlay called up to Scotland squad

Which forced Scotland boss Steve Clarke to make a decision - one which has gone down to mixed reviews to members of the Tartan Army.

Gallagher, 28, is yet to pull on the dark blue of Scotland but has the best chance of doing so this week as minnows San Marino come calling.

Some fans were pleased that the central defender has finally been acknowledged.

One said: "Delighted for Declan Gallagher being called up to the Scotland squad.. he's been brilliant for Motherwell so far this season.

"Go as far as to say he's been their best player during this great start to the season for them".

Another added: "Well done to Declan Gallagher who deserves this opportunity after some great performances for Motherwell this season."

One wrote: "Should have been in the original squad. Statistically the best centre half in the league.

Should Rangers midfielder Ryan Jack be in the Scotland squad?

"Well done Declan Gallagher."

Others were less than delighted at Gallagher's recognition.

One moaned: "Declan Gallagher in the Scotland squad, jesus christ. Any psycho can get a game for us, we're that bad."

Another added: "Declan Gallagher. F*** me".

A third complained: "Declan Gallagher & Lyndon Dykes ?? Scotland shoood pull the plug n am not joking - f***in brutal."

Gallagher's call up comes around a week after Scottish Championship striker Lawrence Shankland was brought into the squad.

Rangers' Ryan Jack pulled out.
