RANGERS striker Alfredo Morelos has been named as September's Ladbrokes Premiership player of the month - with his manager Steven Gerrard picking up the manager of the month award.

It is the first time that the Colombian has won the award with Rangers, and the second time that Gerrard has recognised with the monthly accolade.

Rangers started the month with a 2-0 home defeat to Celtic, but went on to win the remaining three games they played.

Morelos scored three goals, getting on the scoresheet in fixtures against Livingston, St Johnstone and Aberdeen.

Ladbrokes spokesman David Macdonald said: "There is no doubt that Steven Gerrard has injected some real optimism in Glasgow this season and with Alfredo Morelos scoring for fun the excitement is only going to grow for the Rangers fans."
